Mathematics
Mathematics is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. We aim to provide our children with a solid mathematical foundation in order to succeed. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics and a sense of life-long enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
Grange Park Juniors use the Maths: No Problem! Scheme. Pupils are required to explore maths in depth, using mathematical vocabulary to reason and explain their workings. A wide range of mathematical resources are used and pupils are taught to show their workings in a concrete, pictorial and abstract (CPA) form wherever suitable. They are taught to explain their choice of methods and develop their mathematical reasoning skills. We encourage resilience, adaptability and acceptance that struggle is often a necessary step in learning. Our curriculum allows children to better make sense of the world around them relating the pattern between mathematics and everyday life.
This is underpinned by:
High expectations and mastery
Modelling
A vocabulary rich environment
Children will make connections between the maths they have learnt throughout their time in school
The teaching of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving which threads through our curriculum
