Design & Technology

At Grange Park Junior School, we endeavour to give our pupils the opportunity to explore their creativity and imagination by enabling them to design and make products that solve real-life problems within a variety of contexts. Pupils are given opportunities to create products that are functional, purposeful, innovative, and original based on the intended purpose. They are given opportunities to learn and evaluate the work of past designers, engineers and chefs, and how their designs have impacted the world we live in today. They will acquire a broad range of subject knowledge, drawing on other subjects including mathematics, science, computing and art, and will be able to articulate their learning.

Our pupils will be taught Design and Technology in a way that ensures there is progress of skills, and follows a sequence to build on previous learning. Pupils will learn how to take risks and develop resilience through a range of problem solving techniques, including technology-based problem solving. Through an evaluation of both past and present design and technology, they will develop critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.

Throughout KS2, our pupils will engage in predominantly topic-based projects where they will use a range of construction materials, textiles and ingredients to develop their understanding and technical skills to design, make and evaluate a range of products.
