Computing
At Grange Park Junior School, the core of our computing curriculum is computer science. Pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Our scheme of work builds on this knowledge equipping pupils to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content.
For further detail, please see the curriculum overview section.
Pupils are timetabled for one computing lesson in our computer suite each week. Activities are planned to ensure that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology. Effectively using desktop computers is a critical skillset that will benefit pupils in their further education and careers.
To further supplement our pupils' learning, we also have multiple sets of iPads. These are used across the curriculum, including some computing lessons, mathematics practice and the creation of digital media (such as stop-motion animation and music via Garageband).
