Striving to be the best that we can be

Writing

In writing, we have worked diligently over the last few years to encourage cross-curricular writing opportunities. This means we are applying our writing skills to all of our subjects. This may include writing an investigative report in science, writing a diary entry in topic or writing instructions for design and technology.

When planning English, teachers use high quality texts to both support writing lessons and as an outstanding example as to what children's writing should look like. We use a variety of techniques like hot seating, creating art, investigating and many more.

Spelling

Spelling is taught weekly using Readiwriter. Spelling Tests take place on Mondays or Tuesdays based on the week prior's lists. New lists are assigned on Readiwriter each Monday.

Lists are based on the statutory spelling requirements outlined in the NNC.

Grammar & Punctuation

Grammar and punctuation is an important aspect of writing. To support your child in the different expectations in grammar and punctuation, use the link below for videos and activities.

Handwriting & Presentation

Handwriting is incredibly important at Grange Park Junior School. We take pride in our work, and that is reflected in our workbooks. Pupils who demonstrate excellent handwriting are invited to apply for their pen license. If they are successful they will be allowed to use pen in their writing.
