Swimming
Confidence. Skill. Safety for Life.
At Grange Park School, we believe that swimming is more than a sporting activity. It is an essential life skill that every child should have the opportunity to develop.
We are proud to have our own heated swimming pool on site, allowing us to provide regular, structured swimming lessons in a familiar and supportive environment.
Our investment in swimming reflects our commitment to providing exceptional opportunities for our pupils, developing their confidence, improving their physical wellbeing and equipping them with skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Our Own Swimming Pool
Our heated, on-site swimming pool allows us to provide structured swimming lessons throughout the year, giving pupils regular opportunities to develop their swimming ability, confidence and water safety skills.
Unlike schools that rely on external swimming facilities, we can deliver lessons within our own school grounds, reducing travel time and maximising opportunities for learning.
Our facilities also enable us to provide smaller teaching groups, targeted support and additional swimming opportunities beyond the core curriculum.
Developing Confident and Competent Swimmers
Our ambition is for every child to leave Grange Park with the swimming ability, water confidence and safety awareness they need for life.
Swimming lessons focus on developing the three essential National Curriculum requirements:
-
Swimming competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
-
Using a range of swimming strokes effectively, including front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke
-
Performing safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
Pupils develop these skills progressively, with teaching adapted to their confidence, experience and ability.
We recognise that some children begin with limited swimming experience. Our small-group approach allows instructors to provide additional reassurance, support and opportunities to practise.
For more confident swimmers, lessons provide opportunities to refine technique, develop stamina and build greater proficiency.
Specialist Instruction and Individual Progress
Our swimming provision is supported by trained swimming instructors who plan lessons, assess progress and identify pupils requiring further support or challenge.
Regular assessment allows us to monitor children's development and adapt teaching accordingly.
Since introducing our own swimming provision, we have seen significant improvements in pupils' swimming confidence and attainment.
Our aim is to ensure that every child, regardless of their starting point, has the opportunity to develop this essential life skill.
Opportunities Beyond Swimming Lessons
Swimming at Grange Park extends beyond the school timetable.
Alongside our regular curriculum lessons, we offer additional swimming opportunities, including after-school activities and weekend family swimming sessions.
These opportunities allow children to practise their skills, build confidence and enjoy swimming with their families in a familiar environment.
Our year-round provision reflects our commitment to making swimming accessible, enjoyable and an important part of school life.
Confidence Beyond the Pool
Swimming develops much more than physical strength and coordination.
For many children, learning to swim involves overcoming initial uncertainty, persevering through challenges and experiencing the satisfaction of mastering a new skill.
These experiences help develop resilience, independence, determination and self-belief.
We want our pupils to recognise that, with encouragement, practice and perseverance, they can achieve things they may once have thought impossible.
Come and See Our Facilities
Our swimming pool is one of the many facilities and opportunities that make Grange Park School distinctive.
We warmly invite prospective families to visit, meet our staff and see the opportunities available to our pupils.
